“★★★★★” Girls just wanna have fun!
Priscilla Queen Of The Desert is back in town and we are ready to go along for the ride across the Australian Outback.
Priscilla is adapted from the Stephan Elliot film, the musical tells the story of two drag queens and a transsexual. They travel together through the desert to perform as Alice Springs. As they head of on there road trip they encounter lots of different types of people, not all welcoming.
The musical is full of perky pop songs with plenty of eye popping costumes. So expect lots of feathers, glitz and over the top costumes that are just amazing.
All the dance numbers have an high energy and I’ve got the up most respect for the three leading ‘Ladies” Joe Mcfadden (Mitzi) Miles Western (Benadette) and Nick Hayes (Felicia) for performing in high platforms. Nick Hayes really shine through and I absolutely loved his role, the fierce, the fragile and the upbeat Felicia.
This show does show some darker moments, showing the prejudices against transsexuals, bisexuals and homosexuals that are still aparent in society now. Never the less the story shows them bouncing back, sticking together and sticking to who they truly are and that itself is just beautiful.
This musical with lift your spirits and send you home with a spring in your step. Along with familiar songs on repeat in your head “It’s raining men…”
