I absolutely love treasure baskets and it reminds me of my days working in Nurseries in the baby room. Now than Ava is sitting it is the perfect activity to allow her to safely explore the world around her.
Treasure baskets can be pretty much whatever you want it to be, the idea is for your baby to be able to discover objects on their own. Building on their independence. Allow them to manipulate the objects however they wish, even if it’s not the way in which the item is intended to be used.
What I love the most about this type of play is that as Ava grows we can start adding simple words. “Spoon’ “Fish’ etc.
The only thing I would advise is make sure than everything is safe to be used on its own. Nothing to small, sharp, loose. This basket feature is pretty much made of natural materials and wood.
We have a few baskets made up for Ava and the wicker baskets we purchased are just perfect to group objects together. One of our other baskets consists of shiny objects -Spoons, mirrors, shiny blanket.
So why not have a go yourself and see what your little one does? If you do make your own sensory/treasure basket I would love to see what you come up with. Tag me on Instagram – @TheWifeEdit
